DESCRIPTION:
Clockwork Domestic Devices- 6 (Six): (1) Christmas tree stand, spring driven music box and tree rotator, c1900; (2) Two mechanical lamps, spring driven motors power fans that enhance flame, one signed by Hitchcock, c1895; (4) Three spring driven roasting jacks, one signed by "John Linwood" and another "Salter's", c1860.
CONDITION:
(1) Silver or nickel plating is almost entirely gone. Music box plays vigorously when the small knob is pulled. (2) Brass lamp includes glass chimney. The Hitchcock never had a chimney, but it is missing a piece that goes over the flame. Both are oxidized. (3) All three with tarnished cases. These jacks were used to roast meat or poultry and were hung within a fireplace crane. The clockwork mechanism is wound with a key inserted in the side of the case.
